The Yui Hanausagi Navy Chopsticks are part of the Yui collection, a range inspired by the bonds and connections shared between family and friends. The Japanese character Yui represents connection and bringing people together, reflecting the simple pleasure of sitting around the table and sharing a meal with those closest to you.
Hanausagi translates literally to “Flower Rabbit”. At the angled top of each chopstick, a white rabbit sits amongst blooming cherry blossoms against a pink background.
The design also features spiral grooves carved along the upper handle. These give the wooden chopsticks a textured finish while helping them sit comfortably and securely in the hand. The square tips make it easier to pick up noodles, smaller ingredients and slippery foods.
The combination of flowers and rabbits also carries meaning in Japanese culture. Cherry blossoms are closely associated with spring and new beginnings, while rabbits are often linked with moving forward and overcoming obstacles through their ability to leap. Together, they create a design centred around spring, fresh beginnings and progress.
Handmade in Obama City, Japan, these 21cm wooden chopsticks are finished with an acrylic coating, bringing together Japanese symbolism, thoughtful detailing and everyday functionality.
