The Raden Nekomachi Brown Chopsticks are part of the Raden collection, combining traditional Japanese mother-of-pearl craftsmanship with a charming cat-inspired design.
Raden is a traditional Japanese decorative technique that uses carefully cut pieces of mother-of-pearl, abalone and other iridescent shells to create shimmering details on wood and lacquerware. On these chopsticks, black cats are outlined with fine gold detailing, while their bodies are filled with colourful abalone mother-of-pearl Raden that catches the light from different angles. Small white paw prints scattered throughout the design add a playful finishing touch.
Nekomachi literally translates to “Cat Town”, a name that perfectly complements the cat-filled design. The term is also known in Japanese literature through Hagiwara Sakutaro’s 1935 short story Nekomachi, which imagines a mysterious town inhabited by cats.
Handmade in Obama City, Japan, these 23cm chopsticks are made from wood and finished with a polyester coating. They are dishwasher safe and feature anti-slip tips for a more secure grip, combining practical everyday use with the distinctive craftsmanship of the Raden range.
