Deep in Tosa, located in Kochi Prefecture, a single master blacksmith forges these knives using traditional techniques passed down through generations. In this region, it is customary for craftsmen to remain behind the scenes, allowing their work to speak for itself. In keeping with this tradition, the blacksmith’s name remains undisclosed, a mark of the humility and quiet dedication that defines Tosa’s bladesmithing culture.

Each knife is crafted entirely by hand by this artisan. From the initial hot-forging of the steel to the final sharpening and finishing, every step of the process is completed personally by the blacksmith. This hands-on approach ensures exceptional attention to detail, balance, and cutting performance.

At a time when many knives are produced with increasing machine assistance—even those marketed as “handmade”—these blades remain true handcrafted pieces. The result is an authentic, high-quality knife that reflects the skill, precision, and heritage of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Owning one of these knives means owning a genuine piece of Tosa’s renowned blade smithing tradition.
