Forged by hand in Susaki City, Kochi Prefecture, the Sakoda Hamono 170mm Nakiri exemplifies the artistry and precision of traditional Tosa Uchi-hamono craftsmanship. Each blade is meticulously shaped, hardened, and finished by the blacksmiths at Sakoda Hamono, who oversee every stage of production to achieve exceptional sharpness, balance, and durability.

This knife features a San Mai (three-layer) construction with a Shirogami #2 (White Paper Steel) carbon core—prized for its fine grain structure and ability to take a razor-sharp edge. The stainless-steel cladding adds corrosion resistance and ease of care, while the Kurouchi (“blacksmith’s”) finish maintains a rustic aesthetic and protects the blade surface. Over time, the exposed carbon edge will develop a unique patina, enhancing both its beauty and performance.

The Nakiri’s tall, rectangular profile makes it ideal for precise vegetable prep—perfect for chopping, slicing, and dicing with smooth, straight cuts. The knife is fitted with an octagonal burnt oak handle, finished with urushi lacquer for improved grip, durability, and a warm, natural feel in hand.
