The traditions and methods of the Kanetsugu swordsmiths have been meticulously transmitted from one master to the next for more than 660 years. Mr. Mitsuyasu Kawamura, the present-day Kanetsugu smith and proprietor of Kanetsugu, is the custodian of this legacy. The brand pays homage to Kanetsugu Naoe, an iconic swordsmith from Japan's late Muromachi era. The knives created by Seki Kanetsugu originate in Seki, a city with an illustrious blade-making legacy spanning more than 700 years. With a legacy of over 170 years, Kanetsugu has expertly honed the craft of fashioning samurai swords. Drawing inspiration from the legendary Samurai sword, the distinct "Hamaguri" blade design enables effortless precision in straight cuts.
Seki Kanetsugu continues centuries of sword forging history by combining traditional and modern technologies to reproduce the sharpness of Japanese swords in kitchen knives. Drawing on the local steel making history of Seki City in Gifu, the craftsmen of Seki Kanetsugu aim to produce safe and reliable knives to make good tools accessible to all.
